My 2017 Hair Goals!

Healthy Hair Junkie | 2017 Hair Goals

Hi Guys, welcome to my first post of the new year! I hope you’ve all had a great Christmas and you’re ready to sprinkle some magic on 2017!

This really is my favourite time of the year, as it’s a great time for reflection and goal setting. I thought I’d take this opportunity to share my 2017 hair goals with you guys and how I plan to achieve them.

My hair goals for the coming year:

Retain more length

My main focus is always the overall health of my hair, however, one of my main goals for 2017 is to rock my own hair for my wedding at the end of the year. I’ve always had the goal of waist length hair which would be a great accomplishment for me to display on such a special day.

The average growth rate for hair is 1/2 an inch a month, which means it’s possible to grow and retain 6 inches of hair with the right care.

I don’t have the best track record with consistently taking hair growth vitamins but over the next few months, I’ll be tracking my growth with Mielle Organics hair growth vitamins & Manetabolism vitamins. I’m hoping to be a lot more consistent this time around!

Experiment with protective styles

A great way to retain length is to rock protective styles and low manipulation styles. As I went through my SnapChat memories and photos throughout the year, I noticed that I didn’t protective style in 2016. So this year I’d love to try crochet braids, Senegalese twists and I may even experiment with wigs and sew-ins!

Thicker hair

As always I’ll be stretching my relaxers for 16 or so weeks at a time, limiting my heat usage to once a month and I’ll also be starting the year with a trim to get rid of any thin ends. I will also be using castor oil in my deep conditioner, to seal my ends and in my oil mix to apply to my scalp. Check out my hair regime for more details on how I care for my hair.

Eat Healthily

My hair was thriving back in 2013 when I was training for the British 10k and eating healthily. This year I’ll be stepping up my smoothie game and getting in my greens and drinking 2 litres of water daily. Look out for some of my favourite smoothie recipes for hair growth! After all, you are what you eat and healthy hair starts from the inside!

Exercise consistently

I recently shared my results of the Body Coach Shift Shape & Sustain Plan on Instagram and had great feedback. I’ve always seen the best results with hair growth and health when I work out consistently so I’ll be exercising 3-4 times a week. If you’re exercising regularly, it’s important to cleanse your hair to get rid of sweat and buildup.

Self-care

Aside from these hair goals, my own personal focus for the year is self-love, self-improvement and growth. My plan is to be the best version of myself this year and really put in the work to look after no.1!

What are some of your personal and hair goals for 2017?

What do you do to your hair if you’re exercising regularly? I work out 4-5x a week and have had difficulty figuring out the best way to take care of it during and post work out. I can’t imagine washing my hair 4-5x a week

      Hey Jackie,

I always make sure my hair is tied or pinned up and tucked away while I work out, I then clarify at the end of the week to get rid of andy sweat and build up. If you are doing low-intensity workouts a simple shampoo wash will be enough. Check out this post by Just Geen for great tips on how to maintain your hair whilst working out!
