My Top Winter Hair Care Tips

Heathly Hair Junkie| Winter Hair Care

With the weather change in full swing and winter well on its way, I thought this would be the perfect time to share some simple hair care tips to keep your hair healthy throughout winter.

The combination of cold air and your heaters on full blast is bound to take a toll on your hair and can cause it to dry out. Dry hair is a lot more susceptible to breakage, so the main focus throughout winter should be upping the moisture in your hair regime.

Keep reading for my top tips to maintain healthy hair this winter.

Moisturise & Seal

Switch from light moisturisers to heavier moisturising butters to keep your hair hydrated throughout winter. You can also seal the tips of your hair with a thicker oil.

Pre-poo

Give yourself a hot oil treatment with Extra Virgin Olive Oil, especially before a clarifying shampoo to keep your scalp moist, prevent dandruff and prevent your ends from drying.

Shampoo

Shampoo using a rich moisturising shampoo on wash day.

A lack of moisture can result in a dry, itchy scalp, so using an appropriate dry scalp shampoo can combat this.

Deep Condition, Deep Condition, Deep Condition!

The cold weather can draw the moisture out of your hair, so be sure to give your hair some TLC by deep conditioning weekly to put the moisture back in your hair.

Tuck away your hair

Stock up on satin caps/bonnets and sew them into your favourite hats to prevent any breakage from friction between your hair and the material. You can also wear a satin cap/bonnet underneath your headwraps!

Protective Style

Winter is the perfect time to experiment with protective styles. Try rocking braids, twists, wigs and weaves to protect your hair from the cold and minimise breakage.

Protect Your Hair

If you are using heat on your hair during winter, prep your hair with a protein treatment and follow up wth a moisturising deep conditioner. Make sure you use a good heat protectant before applying heat.

Dust Your Ends

Make sure you dust your ends regularly to keep your ends healthy and split ends at bay!

Thanks for the hair care tips. I have never heard of a pre-poo before, but it sounds like something I should be doing. I definitely don’t want to deal with dandruff or dead ends.

Great tips! I would love to try out these. I always try to avoid using blow dryers, curling irons, and straighteners as much as possible.
