The LCO method

IMG_2732

Anytime my hair is being uncooperative and needs a little more moisture than usual, I incorporate the LCO method into my regime. This usually happens around the 10 weeks post relaxer mark, when my new growth really starts coming through and needs to be extra moist to avoid breakage. I’m currently 15 weeks post relaxer, so this is something I’ve been doing for the last few weeks, in the lead-up to my relaxer.

LCO

This method simply involves an additional step between moisturising and sealing. By layering the products your hair can retain more moisture.

Leave-in or Liquid

Cream

Oil

Products

The products I use are the same as the products in my normal hair regime, so you can use whatever usually works for you, you’re simply changing the order in which it’s used. These are the products I’ve been using over the last few weeks:

Cantu Leave-In Conditioning Repair Cream~Water~Shealicious Leave-in conditioning mist

With my hair in 4 sections, I apply my water-based leave-in conditioner from root to tip

LCO Method- Leave Ins

Elasta QP Olive Oil & Mango Butter Moisturiser~Big Hair Moisture Me Whipped Butter

I then apply my water-based moisturiser or cream to the 4 sections

LCO Method- Moisturisers

Coconut oil

I follow this up by sealing in the moisture with my chosen oil & covering my hair with my satin scarf. You can go with a heavier oil, but I like to keep it light with coconut oil & a little castor oil on my ends unless I’m close to wash day or using this method during the colder months

Benefits

If your hair is suffering from extreme dryness then this will really help with moisture retention. The LCO method will provide your hair with enough moisture that you can moisturise every other day without it feeling dry in between. Don’t worry about the product layering weighing down your hair, each layer is simply sealing the previous one

I find that the LCO method keeps my new growth moist which makes it so much easier to manipulate without my hair breaking, which is especially important during those long relaxer stretches.

Try this method combined with protective or low manipulation styling and you’ll be retaining length in no time!

Have you tried the LCO method? If you haven’t already, try it out and let me know how it works for you!
