Wash Day | 3rd May 2018 | Protein & Clarify

Healthy Hair Junkie | Wash Day

I’m back guys and today I’m sharing the details of my most recent wash day. I’m working on streamlining my regime and the products I use. So I hope that by sharing my wash day routine it will help you guys to build your hair regime and I’ll also be able to tell what products are working well on my hair.

I like to use my final wash day of the month to give my hair a protein treatment and clarifying shampoo. As you can see by the date, this weeks wash day was a little late as I was enjoying my well overdue trim and heat pass, courtesy of Elite Hair Lounge. Head over to my Instagram to see the results!

I’ve been experiencing dry scalp in the last couple of weeks, that combined with being almost a week overdue with wash day I really wanted to give my hair some TLC and use products that would help combat my dry scalp.

Keep reading for the full wash day deets!

Pre-poo: Coconut Oil

I applied Coconut Merchant Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil to my scalp and the full length of my hair the night before wash day, covered my hair with a plastic cap and slept with it in.

Protein treatment: Aphoghee Keratin 2 Minute Reconstructor

The next day, I sectioned my hair into 4 and applied the Aphoghee Keratin 2 Minute Reconstructor mixed with Extra Virgin Olive Oil to the roots and length of my hair. I covered my hair with a plastic cap and applied heat using my Hot Head for approximately 30 minutes.

Clarify Shampoo: ORS Creamy Aloe Shampoo

With my hair still in 4 sections, I rinsed the protein treatment using the ORS Creamy Aloe Shampoo. I rinsed and followed up with the Kera Care Dry & Itchy Scalp Shampoo as I ran out of the ORS shampoo *adds to shopping list*.

Deep Conditioner: Tsaka Melanin Queen SOS Hair Rescue Mask

Again, with my hair in 4 sections, I t-shirt dried for about 10 mins to dampen my hair before applying the Tsaka Queen SOS Hair Rescue Mask. I added some Organic Castor Oil and 6 drops of Tea Tree Oil to help with the dry scalp I’d been experiencing since my last wash day. As it has antifungal properties, Tea tree oil helps combat dandruff and calm an itchy scalp. I applied the mix to my roots and throughout my hair, covered my hair with a plastic cap and Hot Head and left it on for one hour.

T-shirt Dry/Air dry

After rinsing out my deep conditioner and detangling in the shower, I wrapped my hair in a cotton t-shirt for approximately 20 mins. T-shirt drying helps to absorb all the excess water, reduces frizzing and helps with the airdrying process. I then removed the t-shirt and left my hair to air dry for an hour or so.

Leave-in:  ORS Shealicious Moisture Mist Leave-in Conditioning Spray & ORS Leave-in Conditioning Creme

Once my hair was mostly dry, I sprayed it with the ORS Shealicious Moisture Mist Leave-in Conditioning Spray and in smaller sections, I applied the ORS Leave-in Conditioning Creme.  I like to layer up the moisture with a spray and creme leave-in as I find it helps with managing and manipulating my new growth and with keeping it moisturised.

At this point, I had to get cute for date night, so I tied my hair up and used my satin scarf to lay everything down.

Moisturise & Seal: ORS Olive Oil Moisturiser Olive Oil Moisturising Hair Lotion & Coconut Oil

A few hours later once my hair was completely dry, I applied my moisturiser in 4 sections and followed this up with coconut oil. I twisted my hair for a loose braid-out the next day. I like to prep my hair in a style I can rock for my morning workout!

That’s all folks. Please leave any questions you have about this weeks wash day down below.

Thanks for posting. You are the second relaxed hair blogger I’ve seen who does a protein treatment first, then shampoos it out. I’ll have to think about that. Right now, I’m clarifying then protein treatment, followed by moisturizing deep conditioner.
